We are pleased to announce the application for the Beit Trust Postgraduate Scholarships for the 2023/2024 academic year.

The Beit Trust, in its commendable endeavour to advance postgraduate education, has facilitated numerous scholarships at top-tier British and South African universities. In 2023, the Trust proudly awarded 21 scholarships through remarkable academic partnerships with renowned institutions. This guide details the application process, eligibility criteria, and relevant dates for prospective candidates, bearing in mind the special focus on graduates and job seekers.

Beit Trust Postgraduate Scholarship Eligibility

To ensure the right candidates avail of these scholarships, there are certain prerequisites:

• Nationality and Residency: The scholarship caters exclusively to Zambia, Zimbabwe, or Malawi nationals. Such nationals should also be permanent residents, live in the aforementioned countries, and intend to return after their studies.
• Previous Education:
  • Relevant post-degree work experience is not just favoured but strongly advised.
  • Medical professionals like doctors and vets must have 18 months of internship and a one-year posting in Zambia, Zimbabwe, or Malawi.
  • Applications from individuals who’ve already started a course won’t be entertained.
  • It’s essential to have either a First Class/Distinction or Upper Second Class Honours degree at an undergraduate level.
• University Partnerships: The Beit Trust partners with specific universities, meaning scholarships are restricted to these institutions. Applicants must get acceptance from these universities before approaching the Beit Trust. The UK universities offer a one-year taught Master’s and the South African ones a two-year taught Master’s.

Application Procedure

Applying for the Beit Trust Postgraduate Scholarship requires careful adherence to the steps below:

• For UK Partner University Applications:
  1. Apply for admission to the Partner Universities via their websites.
  2. Notify the respective university about your impending application to the Beit Trust for scholarship funding.
  3. Upon receiving an offer from your chosen Partner University, apply immediately to the Beit Trust.
  4. Along with your application, provide supporting documents. You will also need three referees: Academic, Character, and Employer. Referee forms must be emailed directly to scholarships@beittrust.org.uk.
• For South African Partner University Applications:

1. 1. Given the unique timeline of South African University applications, you can apply for a scholarship without a confirmed university offer.
   2. Adhere to steps 3 to 7 from the UK Partner University application procedure.
   3. Successful candidates must then apply to a South African Partner University and submit their offer letters to the Beit Trust upon receipt.

What’s Covered?: The scholarship covers fees, tuition costs, academic expenses, a personal allowance, and even economy class tickets for initial journey and final return. Remember, no allowances are provided for family members or dependants.

Application Date

The pivotal date to remember is 19 February 2024, the final deadline for scholarship applications for both UK and South African Universities. The Trust will then conduct interviews in Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Malawi in April.

While resources are constrained, and the process is undoubtedly competitive, selected candidates will be informed about the interview’s specifics.
