DJ PH (born 6 September 1987; Phind’Gcobe Madubela in Eastern Cape) is a South African Disk Jockey. He has taken Mzansi by storm with his energetic presence on stage that even trees would dance when he is performing.

His unique style of making people dance to his beats while on stage has kept his name on the lips of many. No doubt when those making waves in the South African music industry, he would be mentioned.

With over a decade of experience as a deejay, DJ PH has not failed to keep Mzansi entertained and is fast-rising in the industry. The household name is known as a ‘party starter’ on the mic and also a ‘crowd pleaser’.

No doubt, Deejaying is his “superpower” as he knows the perfect time to drop the perfect song for the moment. The Eastern Cape-born has found a way to make a name for himself in face of competition.

DJ PH started his DJing profession as a house deejay and later switched to HIP-HOP.

Life has not been smooth for the deejay who had a humble beginning. He was born on 6 September in Eastern Cape, South Africa into a family of four (4) children.

He grew up in Eastern Cape and has always been looking after himself. His elder brother is a decade older than he is, his sister is half a decade older while his other brother is three years older making him the youngest of four children.

On 6 September 2017, DJ PH celebrated his birthday in a way no one would have expected. On birthdays celebrants expect to receive gifts but the deejay decided to give out on his birthday.

He celebrated his birthday by donating R10,000 to a student that deserves it. Madubela wanted to celebrate his thirtieth birthday by donating money to someone’s education.

People tried out their luck and jumped at the opportunity. His email account was flooded with emails that he received over four hundred emails. Though he wished he could help them all, he’d select a student.

He studied at a ‘boys only’ school and was a sportsperson and played rugby, tennis, and swimming.

Madubela was later appointed the class captain and was a breakdancer when he was in high school. In the crew was a Disk Jockey they called DJ Damage.

A day came that he was unable to practice with them, Madubela stepped in, he had the courage to after he had developed an interest in DJing. DJ Damage however had shown him the buttons he should press, this was where it all started.

DJ PH studied marketing at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology.

Career

During his days in High school, Madubela was a nerd and sportsman. Today he is making waves in the hip-hop club blocks and is 5FM radio.

After graduating with a certificate in marketing be landed a job at Anything Goes in Cape Town. He then made spinning his second job as the resident deejay in clubs and lounges.

With this, he was able to build his presence and became “the part master” for brand parties like Jamieson Soul Session. When he was twenty-four, PH moved to Joburg and lived with his sister.

Madubela became an intern at 5FM, a national radio station. The Convinced Xhosa-bred Disk Jockey entered the DJ search competition finishing as the first runner up twice. In 2016, on his birthday Madubela was called to join the 5FM crew.
