Biography
Bishop Kawira Mwangaza (born in 1973) is a Kenyan politician. She is the current Governor of Meru County, elected in August 2022.
In 2017, she served in the Kenya National Assembly as a member of the Parliament. Kawira was one of Kenya’s seven elected female Governors in 2022.Â

Early Life
Kawira Mwangaza was born in 1973. Her mother raised her after her father’s demise when she was young. The politician did menial jobs in her neighborhood to help her mother take care of her and her younger ones.
The politician dropped out of high school temporarily at fourteen years to work as a domestic worker. Her family was poor, so she needed to work as a house help for almost a year.
Education
Bishop Kawira studied at Meru University in 2012. She obtained a certificate in human resource management from Makerere University in Uganda.
Mwangaza holds a B. Edu in Guidance and Counselling from Kampala International University, Uganda. From 1989 to 1992, she attended Moyale Girls Secondary School for a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
Kawira attended CCM Ontulili Primary School from 1981 to 1988.
Career
In 2013, Mwangaza became interested in politics and ran unsuccessfully for a position in the Parliament.
Governor Kawira has served Kenya through many political and philanthropical positions. She is a grassroots mobilizer and has carried out several personal social development initiatives.
Among others, she started the revolutionary programs, Okolea kaana Ka Miiru.
In 2013, she vied for the Buuri Constituency Parliamentary seat but was not elected. After the 2017 general elections, Kawira emerged as the woman representative for Meru County. She served as a member of the House Business Committee.
In 2017, she was a member of the Departmental Committee for Communication, Innovation, and Information. She represented Meru County well in the Parliament and also took to task various government institutions.
Mwangaza owned small businesses like cake baking before being a full-time politician. It became successful and led to the opening of more branches around the upper eastern. She launched Baite TV, the first Kimeru television station.
From 2004 to 2008, she served as the Chief Executive Officer of Mwangaza Distributors Ltd.
Personal Life
Kawira Mwangaza’s married to Murega Baichu, and their union has lasted for ten years. She is a Christian and a bishop at Baite Family Fellowship church.Â
Impeachment
The Senate saved Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza from Impeachment.
Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale, who leads the Senate Special Committee, said that the accusers couldn’t prove the allegations raised against Governor Mwangaza by Meru County Assembly Members.
Boni also said that the Committee was investigating the allegations, which Meru County Assembly couldn’t substantiate. 67 out of 69 Members of the County Assembly in Meru had impeached Governor Bishop Kawira Mwangaza.
