Khabonina Qubeka (born January 22, 1981) is a veteran South African actress, presenter, singer, and dancer. She is best known for playing the third Doobsie in the SABC2 soap opera Muvhango from 2006-2007.

The actress won the best actress at the 2017 Boston International Film Festival Awards. She starred as Khanyi Qubu in the 2007 SABC3 drama series For Sale. 

Qubeka is famous for playing the ruthless businessperson Faith on the SABC3 drama series The Lab. In 2009, she appeared as Khanyi on the E.tv soap opera Rhythm City.

Early Life

Khabonina Qubeka was born on January 22, 1981, in Orlando West Extension, Soweto. The actress grew up in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Education

After her primary school education, she attended Queen’s High School in Kensington. She enrolled for a dance diploma at Moving Into Dance.

Television

Khabonina Qubeka is an actress, dancer, singer, businessperson, and choreographer. She played the third Doobsie on the SABC2 soap opera Muvhango.

The actress has starred in many other television productions. In 2007, she played Khanyi Qubu on the SABC3 drama series For Sale. Her next role was Faith, a ruthless businessperson, on the SABC3 drama series The Lab. 

The actress began Khabodacious Moves Dance School in Orange Grove and KCPR. She hosted her fitness and lifestyle show, Gym eKasi.

Later in 2009, Khabonina starred as city-slick babe Khanyi on the e.tv soap opera Rhythm City. Another starring role she played was Kefilwe Ndlovu in the SABC2 drama series The Mating Game.

In 2012, Khabonina became a Judge on the e.tv reality dance competition Step Up or Step Out. She replaced Penny Thloloe for season two.

Qubeka trained the cubs for The Lion King theatre production at Monte Casino in dance and acting workshops in 2007. She has traveled to Europe with Richard Loring’s African Footprint.

The actress performed at the 55 Congress de la FIFA in Marrakech, Morroco. She played the starring role of Dora in the film Dora’s Peace.

In 2010, she appeared on the SABC1 reality competition Dance Your Ass Off as Judge.

The show aired on OpenView HD’s eKasi+ channel and was a guide to choosing the right food and exercise at home and neighborhood.

The presenter also did the SABC1 political thriller Ihawu Lesizwe. She toured Canada as a storyteller, dancer, teacher, and singer with the Milk Children Festival.

Apart from acting, Khabonina Qubeka is also a musician and is in a contract with her record label Khabodacious Moves Music. She dropped her debut album Gama Lahko (2010).

The album housed twelve tracks, including the hit singles Gama Lakho and Bring Your Body. She produced music videos for both singles.

In 2013, she dropped the hit rap song Wax It (Wax On Wax Off). After about five years after its release, the song gained massive airplay and went viral. 

Qubeka has collaborated with artists like the late Lebo Mathosa, Somizi, Thembi Seete, TK, and Debbie Rakusin.
