Mavuso Msimang (born 19 October 1941) is widely recognized as a leader of change in South Africa. He is most respected for occupying managerial positions in several capacities in South Africa and across its borders.
He managed to climb to the position of CEO of the State Information Technology Agency (SITA), South Africa. During his tenure as the Chief Executive Officer, he also served as the overseer of government use of technology.
In 2018, his good works were recognized and he received the WWF South Africa Living Planet Award. He bagged the award at the 2018 WWF’s annual thought-leadership, the Living Planet Conference, at The Maslow in Sandton. He took home the award for his significant contribution to the environmental sector in post-apartheid South Africa.
He holds varied experience in transforming institutions and has been a member of WWF South Africa since 2011. Mavuso is the chairperson of the Social Ethics and Transformation Committee.

Background
His date of birth is on 19 October 1941. Mavuso spent most of his childhood days around missionaries. He had his early academic pursuit in Jobstown, at the time he stayed with his grandmother. He matriculated in 1960 at Inkamana High School, a catholic school in Vryheid, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.
Education
After successful matriculation, he enrolled at the University of Zambia. He studied for a degree in Entomology/Biology at the higher institution. He also holds an MBA from the US International University in San Diego, California.
Career
In 1966 he began to serve with the MK Military High Command. Mavuso ended the service in 1969 after which he was appointed to serve as personal assistant to Oliver Tambo. He occupied the position starting from 1969 and left in 1971, after serving for two years.
He joined the United Nations (UN) in 1977 on a volunteering service. He was able to work within Ethiopia, Zambia, and Kenya through the opportunity created.
Msimang got a job role at CARE International, he occupied the position of the country director in Kenya and Ethiopia. After which, he became the head of emergency planning for WUSC.
He holds the record as the first black executive to head South African Tourism. He remained in the position for two years (1994-96). He became the chief executive officer of SANParks in 1997 and served in the capacity for six years.
He spent 30 years in exile and worked for several top international development agencies. Msimang worked for the World University Service of Canada (WUSC), CARE-CANADA, UN World Food Programme, and UNICEF.
Party
He belongs to the African National Congress (ANC) and is one of its veteran members. He is popular at the party for his passion to see things work which earned him the nickname “Mr. Fix It”.
