Early Life

Nokuthula Ledwaba was born in 1983 in Mofolo area in Soweto, Gauteng, South Africa. Her mother, Grace Vilakazi-Ledwaba, had her at a young age.

Her father, Mavuso, died when her mother was pregnant. Her mother faced the challenge of raising children at a young age. 

To make things easy, Nokuthala moved to her aunt’s and grew up in Soshanguve, Northern Pretoria.

When she was a teenager, she learned about where she came from – her family and her father. She returned to her mother and lived with her. Sadly, she lost her mother in 2015.

Career

Ledwaba was already doing many children’s and educational theatre productions at 19. These productions toured South Africa and the United Kingdom.

Nokuthula Ledwaba appeared as wild child Lu in the E.tv soap opera Backstage. She impressed many television viewers with her role as diva-in-the-making Tshidi Khuse on the E.tv soap opera Rhythm City.

The River invited her to be a cast member in 2018, and she bagged the role of Angel and appeared in two seasons, one and two. She played Mapule in the Mzansi Magic Abomama and Thembi in the Vusu Drama Ambitions.

Nokuthula played Leah Gumede, a supportive role, in season four of the TV series Hard Copy. She also appeared in Backstage, Umlilo, and Scandal.

Ledwaba bagged a lead role as Kunta Kinte’s mother in the remake of the American mini-series Root.

The actress played a starring role of a Soweto-born city girl and a second wife, Dumile, in the e.tv drama series Umlilo.
