Suzette van der Merwe tied the knot with her long-time fiancé, businessman Mark Weston on December 14, 2019. The couple had been engaged for five years after they met on a blind date six years ago.
They exchanged their marriage vows on Pink Beach in his home country. Her husband’s father and stepmother attended the wedding. They planned to host a traditional wedding upon returning to South Africa.
Suzette van der Merwe has two children – a daughter Skye and a son Graydon. She has a 6-year-old dog – Richie.
Neck operation
Former Miss South Africa Suzette van der Merwe underwent a neck operation following months of back pain. The beauty queen did not know where or how she injured her neck.
According to her, she woke up in January with a muscle spasm in her left shoulder blade. After some massage, it could only grow worse. It later spread into other parts of her body – neck, shoulder, arm, hand, and buttock.
An orthopedic surgeon did an MRI, which revealed nerve damage.
An operation was scheduled at Life Faerie Glen Hospital in Pretoria. She spent one night in the hospital’s high-care unit before her discharge.
