Lerato Mvelase (born 7 September 1982 in Diepkloof, née Moloisane) is a South African actress and TV presenter. People fell greatly in love with her personality on the screen and outside after she was cast on Home Affair. 

On the SABC1 drama series, she played the role of Katlego for four (4) years (2005-2009).

How would you love to see her in action? On Home Sweet Home, she landed the starring role as Princess. The played the character who is intelligent, attractive, ambitious, and responsible in the SABC2 sitcom in 2011.

The same year, Lerato played a starring role as Yoliswa in Shreds and Dreams, an SABC1 mini-series.

She was born on 7 September 1982 and the place of birth is in Diepkloof, Soweto, South Africa. She has been in the entertainment industry for a very long time and started acting when she was young. 

During her days in school, Lerato was active in theatre productions. She participated for several years and then finally, she decided to make it her profession.

The smart actress had her matriculation at Sacred Heart College. While in the academic institution, she appeared in several theatre productions.

Her love for entertainment grew more and more that she decided to follow her passion. In 2002, she obtained a degree at the University of Witwatersrand (Wits University). Lerato graduated from the tertiary institution with a degree in Drama.

She also holds a Communication Science diploma. Lerato obtained the certification from the University of South Africa (UNISA) in 2006.

Career

The same year she graduated from the university, she landed a presenting job at CCMI. In the year that followed, in 2003, she landed her first acting role. Lerato played a cameo role on Backstage, an e.tv soap opera.

She was cast as Mbali in season one of Mzansi, an SABC1 drama series in 2004. Khanyisile Mbau replaced her after she continued to appear in season two (2).

Playing a lead role on she appeared again in Home Affairs in 2005. As an actress, she has made an appearance on many theatre productions. In 1995, she appeared on Midsummer Night’s Dream directed by Claire Stopford.

In 1999, Lerato appeared a production directed by Karen de Abreu – Grease. She also made a notable appearance on the 2004 Theatre production by Keith Smith, Moulin Rouge.

The actress is fluent in six (6) languages including English, South Sotho, Tswana, Zulu, and Xhosa. She is also very skilled at accents. 

Lerato claims that she can speak in other accents. She can speak in British (straight) and Cockney accents, American, and Cape Colored.

As a popular television personality, Lerato took over from Joel Zuma as the host of Kaelo-Stories of Home. She became the host of the e.tv docu-reality series in 2013.

Playing a starring role, she was cast as Dipuo Nuru, the character is a journalist in Thola, an SABC2 thriller. She also landed another guest-starring role on The Road, an Mzansi Magic telenovela.

On another popular show isiBaya, Lerato landed a recurring role. On the Mzansi Magic show, she was cast as Lt. Samkelo Mkhize and appeared first on the fourth season on the one hundred and twenty-first episode.

She has a brother who is not a newbie in the entertainment industry. Lerato brother’s name is ProVerb, Idols presenter and a popular rapper.

She was also in a relationship with Siyabonga Radebe. Lerato walked out of the relationship after finding out that Radebe was cheating on her with another woman.

Moments passes and Radebe found out that the fault was from his end, the comedian and actor apologized. The actress who seemed to be against polygamy perhaps has put her decision on reconsideration or not.

She appeared on the show isiBaya, playing the role of Sibongile Mkhize. In the drama series, she appeared as a police officer who is in love with Mpiyakhe Zungu, a polygamist. She ended up becoming his third wife.
