Mapaseka Mokwele (born April 12, 1976) is a South African journalist, producer, news anchor, and radio and television host. She is best known for hosting the daily talk current affairs show on Kaya FM, Home. The show covered topics on news, business, culture, fashion, and the arts.

The seasoned host is also known on television for discussing issues affecting South African women on Motswako. She host on a talk-show on Radio 2000 on Weekdays, from Monday to Thursday, 7 PM to 9 PM.

Mapaseka Mokwele was born on April 12, 1976, in Naledi, Soweto, into a family of three children. Later, she moved to Pimville in Soweto. Growing up, she watched her parents love each other so much, and they became her role model.

Her parents were together from their teenage days until her father died nine years ago.

Mokwele holds a master’s degree in Management and Business Executive Coaching.

Career

Mokwele joined the broadcast industry as host of Your Own Business on SABC2 in 1996. She auditioned among other hopefuls and got it. Some years later, she became a new anchor on Voice of Soweto.

Being the host of Motswako and the face of SABC 3’s prime-time English news bulletin and Morning Live rose her to prominence. 

Mapaseka hosted Home with Mapaseka on Kaya FM on weekdays, Mondays to Thursdays. The show addressed issues from family, intimacy, parenting, sex, and sexuality. She left the show after seven years.

In September 2020, she returned to television among the experts on M-Net’s new reality TV show, The Single Wives SA. She has a passion for coaching and has started. While doing radio, she decided to return to school and focus on coaching.

Mapaseka Mokwele married to the veteran radio personality Thabo Mokwele (aka Tbose) in 2002. They divorced in 2013 but rekindled their love for each other and were remarried in 2016

Scandal

Mokwele’s fifteen-year friendship ended after Wits Business School terminated her contract following assault allegations made by her friend.

They couldn’t reach a mutual agreement, and now the case is before the High Court. The court papers showed that Mokwele and her friend Thandi Makubele attended a fundraising conference in Cape Town. 

At a private dinner, Thandi allegedly told a waiter, who recognized Mokwele, about her social standing and influence. Mapaseka allegedly had to remind her friend not to disclose or boast about her personal information and social status.

Thandi disregarded her and continued. So, Mapaseka allegedly gently nudge her friend’s knee with her foot under the table. She also referred to a text message sent to show her discomfort about Thandi’s actions.

After the incident, a human resources office employee at WBS sent her a mail to inform her about a case of assault opened against her.

Mapaseka claims her friend’s malicious and defamatory allegations caused her reputation harm. She says it also cost her R250,000 worth of damages.
