Thoko Didiza (born 2 June 1965 in Durban) is a South African politician. She has made notable impacts in the country’s politics and has been a source of inspiration to many women. The successful political figure has proven that creating a better South Africa is possible.

She serves her country through the position of the Minister of Agriculture, Land Reform, and Rural Development. To better be of help in the progress of the country, Thoko is a member of Parliament.

In September 2008, she was one of the ten ministers who submitted their resignations. This courageous act followed the resignation of former president Thabo Mbeki.

She had her matriculation in 1981 at Ohlange High School, Inanda, Durban, South Africa. Upon completing her high school education, she furthered her academic pursuit at a Sached.

At the institution, she studied for a Certificate in Secretarial Course and graduated in 1981.

She also holds a diploma in Personnel and Training Practice from Executive Education College, Durban. In 1990, she studied for a Public Relations certificate course at Executive Education College.

In 1991, Thoko studied for a Diploma in Journalism. She obtained the certificate from Birnam Business College, Johannesburg. 

She also studied for a Diploma in Business and Financial Management. Thoko obtained the certificate from Executive Education College, Johannesburg. 

She is also a graduate of Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and Politics in 2003. Thoko received an Honors degree in Politics in 2007.

Thoko Didiza is married to Thami Didiza and their union is blessed with five children. In 2008, after her resignation, she decided to spent quality time with her husband and children.

Party

As a politician, she is a member of the ruling party in South Africa, the African National Congress (ANC). Under the party, she holds several positions and is contributing in the best way within her capacity.

She currently serves as the South African Minister of Agriculture, Land Reform, and Rural Development. In May 2019, she joined the Parliament as a Member.

Career

In 1987, she became the Programme Officer for Diakonia’s Social Action Network. Thoko worked for two years before she left the position in 1989.

In 1986, Thoko was appointed to the position of Treasurer of the Natal Women’s Organization. In the year that followed, 1987, she became a member of the Women’s Advisory Committee SACC.

She served as an executive member of the Inter-church Youth, SACC in 1989.

In March 1989, Thoko became the coordinator of the World Affiliated Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA) in South Africa. She occupied the position for four years and left in 1993.

In 1991, Ms. Didiza became an Associate Member of the Women’s Development Bank.

In 1992, she occupied the position of the new National General Secretary of the Women’s National Coalition. After serving for two years, she left in 1994.

In 1992, she became a facilitator at the International Youth Leadership Training, Norway.

In the next year, 1993, she became the National Deputy General Secretary for the South African Council of YWCA. She served in the capacity for a year before she left in 1994.

In 2005, Thoko became a Young Global Leader at the time she served as the Minister of Agriculture and Land Affairs. She occupied the position for 7 years (1999 – 2006).

In May 2006, she became the Minister of Public Works. Ms. Didiza served in the position for two years leaving the post in September 2008.

Dead

In 2016, false news reported that she is dead and that the police had confirmed that her death was caused by stabs. The online satirical blogs covered that she died in her home in Durban.

The National Assembly has to intervene through its spokesperson confirming that the report was fake. The spokesperson further noted that she was alive and healthy in her home in Pretoria.
