Hendrik Stephanus Viljoen (born January 2, 1970), popular as Fanie Viljoen, is an award-winning Afrikaans writer, author, and artist. His books have received literary prizes.

Some of his English publications include Dreamers, Scarred Lions, and Jump.

As an author, Fanie Viljoen has written over thirty-five books. Most of his publications are in the Afrikaans Language.

Early Life

Fanie Viljoen was born on January 2, 1970. He attended school in Welkom, South Africa. Left for him, he would have loved to remain in grade one. His creative talents started manifesting in school and he wrote good essays.

Education

In 1987, Fanie Viljoen matriculated at the Goudveld High School in Welkom, South Africa. He enrolled to study graphic design at the Technical College Welkom from 1993–1995. He holds a BA degree in social sciences from the University of South Africa.

Career

In 1990, Fanie started to work as a training consultant at Sanlam until 2006. He became a full-time writer and artist in 2006. He first worked in a bank as a teller.

The woman’s magazine Sarie published Viljoen’s first short story. He has written many plays for radio. His books are recipients of several awards.

Fanie Viljoen writes short stories, non-fiction, poems, rhymes, television plays, radio plays, and more in English and Afrikaans Language.

Personal Life

Fanie loves to work on new paintings during his leisure time. He enjoys eating dates, chocolates, nougat, and honey. To relax, he listens to music, visits the gym, or reads.

Fanie stays lives in Bloemfontein, capital of the Free State, South Africa.
