Sho Madjozi (born Maya Christinah Xichavo Wegerif; 9 May, 1992 in Shirley Village, Limpopo) is a South African poet, rapper, and songwriter.

She has dropped several heat songs including John Cena, Kona, Huku, Wakanda forever, and Huku.

She has also performed alongside renowned celebrities in the music industry including Chris Martin, Cardi B, Shawn Mendes, Janelle Monáe, and The Weeknd.

Sho Madjozi also performed at the Global Citizen Festival held in New York in 2018 among other African stars.

The Kona singer also appeared at the Global Citizen Festival: Mandela 100, Johannesburg.

She made an appearance alongside music heavyweights including Beyoncé and Pharrell Williams.

She draws her musical inspiration from her Tsonga culture and language and sings in her mother tongue.

Most times, the Limpopo musician could be seen performing the indigenous dance of Tsonga women as she wears a xibelani skirt.

She is the only child her parents had together, but Sho Madjozi has half-siblings from her father and mother.

She was born in Shirley Village located in the community Elim in Limpopo province of South Africa.

The singer has also lived in other places outside the shores of South Africa including Tanzania and Senegal.


She was born into the family of Marc Wegerif, a Swedish man, and Rosemary Phaweni.

As a charity worker, her father traveled to many African countries and also ran an NGO. The Organization helped people with their land claim applications.

She went on some travels with her father and spent several years in Tanzania.

Marc used to work for Oxfam, a global charity organization in Dar es Salaam. Her parents had their divorce when she was still a young child.

She was linked to Sjava, a KwaZulu-Natal artist after they were seen looking cozy at a music show shortly after the Durban July.

Their followers and fans had to conclude they were dating. Sho Madjozi had to react telling them they were just friends.

At the moment she wants to focus on her career after a couple of breakups and heartbreaks that followed.

In 2019, the Kona hit artist took a swipe at her ex-boyfriend during her acceptance speech at SAMA.


She took home two (2) awards in 2019 including ‘Best Newcomer’ and ‘Best Female Artist’ at SAMAs.

She has received several awards and has added another to the list. Sho Madjozi bagged a Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Awards (KCA) 2020.

She also received the ‘Favorite African Star’ at an award host Victory Justice at the virtually hosted awards.

During her studies in the United States, she became a poet and her poems covered her identity and politics.

In 2016, upon finishing her studies, Sho returned to her country, South Africa, and enrolled in UNISA.
She started to write songs and continued and later she started to create her songs.

She walked into the spotlight for featuring on Ngiyashisa Bhe, a hit single by Okmalumkoolkat.

They had another collaboration on the song Gqi, which made a wave in the country.

In 2017. she dropped her debut single titled Dumi HiPhone featuring PS DJz, an electronic dance duo.

In 2018, Sho Madjozi released another song titled Huku. The song which was the lead single of, Limpopo Champions League, her first album made a wave in the country.
